Milan had to come from behind twice and had to wait until the 95th minute to earn a 3-2 win over Parma in Sunday’s Serie A fixture, as a hectic game saw Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez subbed off at half-time, Youssouf Fofana suspended for next week’s game against Inter and a confrontation between the coach and captain Davide Calabria at full-time.

Here are the player ratings from a hectic afternoon in San Siro.

Milan ratings

Milan: Maignan 6, Calabria 6 (Jovic 6), Gabbia 5.5, Pavlovic 7.5, T. Hernandez 5.5 (Bartesaghi 6.5); Musah 5.5, Fofana 6 (Chukwueze 7); Pulisic 7, Reijnders 6.5, Leao 5 (Bennacer 5.5); Morata 5 (Abraham 6).

Best Milan player: Pavlovic 7.5 – Though Milan conceded twice, Pavlovic had a fairly solid afternoon on an individual level. He made an excellent challenge one-on-one with Cancellieri when he was already on a booking in the second half, and came so close to getting the equaliser for Milan, but strayed just offside before planting his late header past Suzuki. Crucial in the build-up to Chukwueze’s late, late winner as well.

Worst Milan player: Leao 5 – An uninspiring first half display led Sergio Conceicao to replace both Leao and Theo Hernandez at half-time in San Siro. The Portugal international failed to get into the game during his 45-minute run-out, and now questions will certainly be asked of him and the coach after such a big call. Leao wasn’t the only Milan player who failed to impress, though, as Bennacer, Musah and Gabbia all got in a bit of a mess for Parma’s second.

Coach: Sergio Conceicao 5.5 – A strange day at the office for the Rossoneri coach, who had it all to deal with over the 90 minutes. Milan lacked conviction in the first half, and looked like they might have been heading for an embarrassing defeat until late on. They pulled off the comeback, and had the ball in the back of the net on four occasions by the end. The coach made a big call in replacing star players Leao and Theo Hernandez at full-time, and then had a massively heated argument with captain Davide Calabria at full-time, with teammates having to pull the Rossoneri right-back away.

Parma ratings

Parma: Suzuki 5; Del Prato 7; Vogliacco 6, Valenti 6, Valeri 6.5; Sohm 6.5, Hernani 6; Cancellieri 7.5, Man 6, Mihaila 6; Djuric 6.

Best Parma player: Cancellieri 7.5 – A few to choose from for the triumphant Crociati, but goalscorer Cancellieri caused a lot of threats to the Milan back line from start to finish and took his goal well to hand Parma the advantage midway through the first half. A very solid performance from Del Prato, who made a crucial intervention in his own area before coming alive at the other end to restore the advantage.

Worst Parma player: Suzuki 5 – Clumsy to give Milan a penalty in the first half after showing Pavlovic. Fumbled the ball slightly late into injury time, which allowed Chukwueze to recover and poke home from close range for the winner.

Coach: Fabio Pecchia 6.5 – A massively disheartening result for Parma, who had looked excellent for the vast majority of the game until the second half. For a large chunk of the game, Parma looked worthy of an impressive away result, and had at one point stood in 13th place in the table, but have work to do again now, as they currently find themselves one place above the relegation zone, having played one game more than the three teams below them. An encouraging performance until the final part.
