The hosts opened strongly and provided a number of problems in the first ten minutes for PSG but a lazy pass from Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo was picked off by Neymar as he and his defence tried to play out from the back. Hugo Ekitike eventually squared for Neymar who passed into a Mvogo-less net. A goal up, Paris were able to control the pace and actively avoided an open game that would benefit their opponents. However, just after the break a neat move put Terem Moffi in to slam home a Lorient equaliser. That lead to an even second period but neither side could create many openings until Danilo powered home a frustratingly simple winning header from the host’s point of view with ten minutes to play.

LORIENT – 1 (Moffi 50)

Yvon Mvogo, 4 – Lasted a short but eventful nine minutes. He made a superb one-on-one stop from Neymar early on but was then picked off by the Brazilian for the opener, allowing him to pass into an empty net, Mvogo injuring himself in his attempts to recover.

Gedeon Kalulu, 7 – Perhaps the only Lorient defender to look comfortable in playing out from the back in the face of PSG’s press, especially before half time. He defended intelligently throughout, notably making a clearance off the line from Ekitike, and was useful in supporting attacks too. Expertly handled PSG’s number seven.

Enzo Le Fée, 6 – A little ponderous, even timid, at times in the first half when Lorient needed to be more proactive but his set pieces deliveries were always dangerous and he opened up after the break. His deft through ball after some neat interplay around the box set up the equaliser.

Neymar, 8 – Ran the game for long periods and was PSG’s only real persistent threat. He pressed well when needed, delightfully skipped by opponents in midfield and created the majority of PSG’s openings including both goals, firstly by forcing a mistake from Mvogo before slotting home himself and then via a precise corner for Danilo’s header.

Kylian Mbappé, 4 – Only fleetingly dangerous, Mbappé was expertly handled by Kalulu and he was withdrawn with less than ten minutes to play before heading almost immediately down the tunnel. Although his wish to play with a number nine was granted, it offered little in terms of output.

Hugo Ekitiké, 4 – Having received rare minutes in a Paris shirt, the youngster will be disappointed with his display. Although he did well to square a simple pass for Neymar’s opener, he should have scored too, seeing one effort cleared off the line and another blazed over. A little on the fringes generally.
