Inter overcame Venezia with a last gasp win at the death when Edin Dzeko headed home Denzel Dumfries cross to go home with all three points.
Samir Handanovic – 5.5: Made one regulation save in the first half and maybe with his height should have stopped the goal as well. Not much to do on the ball.
Milan Skriniar – 6: Lost Henry on the goal but had no other defensive challenges. Spent most of his time in Venezia’s half trying to free some space for Barella.
Stefan De Vrij – 6: Not much to do defensively as Venezia stayed deep back in their half. As the game went on Henry gave him a lot of trouble in the air.
Alessandro Bastoni – 5: Got a soft yellow card while chasing back. His attacking play did not click in the first half at all as Inter struggled with Venezia’s low block.
Matteo Darmian – 5.5: Matteo looked a little rusty tonight especially with his positioning and movement. Brilliant cross for the equalizer was his best moment.
Nicolo Barella – 7: The only Inter player who consistently caused Venezia trouble throughout the game in both phases of play. His crosses are very underrated.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Frustrating night for Brozo as his touch looked off and the poor quality of the pitch played its part. Avoided a booking and will play Milan.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6: Hakan was good from the set pieces but the build-up play and combinations with Bastoni and Perisic didn’t really click throughout the game.
Ivan Perisic – 6.5: Put in a lot of hard yards and kept it cool when that Darmian cross came in. As is now usual he made sure to seal the left flank defensively.
Edin Dzeko – 6.5: Involved in the build-up for most moves including the Barella goal. Missed a lot of easy chances but scored when it mattered to seal the win.
Lautaro Martinez – 5.5: Only first half effort of note was an overhead kick which went over. Struggled to get involved or press at the right time. Not his best night.
Federico Dimarco – 6: Brought on at half time for Bastoni as Inter needed a more attack minded player. Tried his best but couldn’t deliver a telling pass or cross.
Arturo Vidal – 6: Should have scored at the end and his frustration was obvious. However, he played very well in his 20 mins to keep the pressure on Venezia.
Alexis Sanchez – 6.5: Alexis continued his purple patch and looked like he had lots of tricks up his sleeve. Hopefully he stays fit during and after the trip to Chile.
Denzel Dumfries – 6.5: Might have just played himself back into the starting 11. Looks like the opposite of the player that started the season. Decisive and calm.
Matias Vecino – N/A: First great performance by Vecino in a very long time. Never stopped running and attacked the few channels a tiring Venezia left open.
Simone Inzaghi – 6: Played a full-strength team that did not manage to get out of 3rd gear all night. Made the right substitutions at the right time to get the win
Matteo Marchetti – 4: The kind of ref that makes Serie A conspiracy theorists look sane. Made easy decisions feel like rocket science. Doesn’t belong at this level.
Inter – 5.5: A very poor performance against a team that is around the relegation zone. Hopefully the break helps everyone to come back to top form.
