Heidenheim secured a famous win at the Voith-Arena on Saturday to overturn a 2-0 deficit to beat Bayern Munich 3-2, becoming the first newly promoted team in Bundesliga history to beat Bayern after coming back from two goals down.

Goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry put Bayern in a comfortable lead heading into the break. Kane scored his 32nd Bundesliga goal of the season, while Gnabry netted his third goal in four league games since making his return from injury.

But one thing about this Frank Schmidt side is they will never go down without a fight. There was just 86 seconds between Kevin Sessa bringing Heidenheim to within one before Tim Kleindienst leveled the game in the 51st minute after poor marking. Kleindienst then scored his second of the afternoon 11 minutes from time, before Heidenheim defended for their lives following the Bayern onslaught that followed.

Heidenheim defended heroically to secure a famous win against the current champions. They are now closer to qualifying for Europe than they are to the automatic relegation places, and it’s a testament to the incredible work that Schmidt has done at the club.

This win will go down in the club’s history.
