2025 has not been a good year for Borussia Dortmund. They'd recorded a solitary league win and amassed a measly four points from seven games. With a negative-seven goal differential, that makes BVB the worst performing club of the Rückrunde... so far. Borussia Dortmund were seeking their first home win of the year, and Niko Kovač was looking for his first ever win in the Westfalenstadion.
There were three notable changes from the team that faced Sporting midweek. Gio Reyna started for the injured Julian Brandt, Ramy Bensebaini returned, replacing Daniel Svensson, and Jamie Gittens was dropped in favor of Maxi Beier.
The first half began with a high intensity, and the Dortmund players maintained this throughout the half. Perhaps the opening goal was luck, a deflected cross from Julian Ryerson, but then BVB found a second through Serhou Guirassy. The assist came from Pascal Groß, after he received the ball from a rather impressive tackle and steal from Ramy Bensebaini.
The first half was good, but somehow the second half was better! Serhou Guirassy found the net three more times, followed by Maxi Beier to make it 6-0. This win should boost Dortmund's confidence ahead of the international break. Here are the player ratings from Dortmund's 6-0 win over Union Berlin:
