After their defeat in midweek, Bayern Munich were unable to get the better of early high flyers Eintracht Frankfurt and a tense game at Deutsche Bank Park ended 3-3.
What is clear is that under Vincent Kompany, Bayern are even more dominant than they were beforehand and they just dominant possession of the ball. This was the case here as well, in the first half, Bayern had 79% of the ball compared to Frankfurt’s 21%.
However, one issue, which was seen against Aston Villa in midweek is that Bayern’s defenders struggled one-on-one with a striker. Although Min-Jae Kim and Dayot Upamecano both scored for Bayern in the first half, both of Frankfurt’s goals came from Omar Marmoush being isolated against a defender, for the equaliser Marmoush was played through by Ansgar Knauff and the Egyptian continued his great goalscoring form. Marmoush then turned provider when he was one-on-one with Upamecano and ended up squaring the ball for Hugo Ekitike to give Frankfurt the lead.
Frankfurt’s downfall for most of the game had been their defence, although Kaua had made several good saves to keep out Bayern, the defenders in front of him struggled to handle Bayern’s pressure.
Business resumed in the second half as Bayern continued to control the game and Michael Olise gave them the lead once again when his strike from the edge of the box beat Kaua. However, Bayern were never able to truly kill the game off after Kaua continued to make several good saves to keep them out. As the game ticked towards the final whistle, Frankfurt found more and more space and looked dangerous on the counter. After Eric Dina Ebimbe missed a good chance to equalise, the Frenchman then played through Marmoush to score his second of the game and rescue a point for Frankfurt.
Bayern will once again wish that they got something out of the game, as in terms of their stats, they should have won, but the hosts were able to outwork them and made use of the weaknesses that Bayern showed against Villa in midweek and were clinical in the few chances they did have. Frankfurt have shown their vast improvement under head coach Dino Toppmöller this season with the likes of Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike flourishing, and Frankfurt are benefiting from the fruits of their labour as the pair are the most lethal duo in the Bundesliga right now.
The Rekordmeister’s schedule does not get any easier as after the international break they play VfB Stuttgart. After the international break, Frankfurt will look to continue their great start to the season as they travel to Bayer Leverkusen.

The most in-form player in the Bundesliga right now. Marmoush was a nuisance for Bayern’s back line for the whole game and made use of the little service he was provided due to the visitor’s dominance coming away with two goals and an assist. The 25-year-old was also active on the defensive end as Frankfurt spent most of the game in their own half.
