Player Ratings as Liverpool Put the Blades to the Sword | OneFootball

Liverpool got back to winning ways in the Premier League after a reasonably solid 2-1 over Sheffield United at Anfield. The Reds went behind after more disgraceful officiating aided by VAR, but dug deep to come away with all three points.

Alisson – 6

It was great to see our gloved Brazilian back between the sticks after a few weeks out. He didn’t have a whole lot to do, in truth. However, he did make one smart save to deny a Ben Osborn volley in the first half.

Trent – 6

A better performance from Trent tonight. Had struggled in recent weeks and, while he wasn’t at his very best, it was more encouraging. He went incredibly close to a stupendous goal from the halfway line, but that was just tipped over the bar by Ramsdale.

Fabinho –  7

Was inexplicably adjudged to have committed a foul in the box despite clearly getting the ball. He did have some troubles in the air against McBurnie, but was solid aside from that.

Gomez – 7

Also lost a few headers that you’d hope he’d win, but defended well on the whole. Sheffield United were restricted to very few chances and a lot of credit must go to the centre-back pairing for that.

Robertson – 7

Continued his good form at the start of this season with another energetic display. The man never seems to run out of fuel – he doesn’t give the opposing defence or attack a moment’s peace.

Henderson – 5

Not the captain’s game tonight. Has regularly looked poor in a midfield two and tonight was no different. Whipped in an excellent ball that led to the equaliser, but aside from that he looked rather lost.

Wijnaldum – 5

Similar issues for as Henderson for Gini. The two of them didn’t really work together in midfield so Sheffield United found it all too easy to play through us at times. Klopp did lack options tonight with all the midfield absences, though, so didn’t have a lot of choice.

Firmino – 5

Got his goal which was nice to see, but failed to have much of an impact on the game. Was very much on the periphery from minute one and his poor displays show no sign of stopping.

Mané – 6

Played a great ball into Jota to create the winner and put in a real shift, especially considering his dead leg. Technically created the Firmino goal, too, after his header was parried into the Brazilian’s path.

Salah – 7

Didn’t see much of him in the first half, but came alive in the second. Was denied two incredible goals, one by VAR after a tight offside call and one by the post. The combination of speed, strength and agility he possesses is a nightmare to deal with and he showed that again tonight.

Jota – 6

Had a tough first 45 and found it difficult to get into the game. However, like Salah, he was much improved in the second. Some lovely touches helped set up counter-attacking opportunities and he capped his display with a goal – a lovely header following a pinpoint delivery from Sadio Mane.
