Arsenal’s frustrating 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Wednesday night saw the Gunners lose valuable ground in their pursuit of Premier League leaders Liverpool. Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to break down a well-organised Forest defence, with their attacking force lacking the sharpness needed to seal a victory.
The match began with Arsenal firmly in control, setting the tempo early on. Both teams received early bookings, as the intensity of the contest quickly became apparent. Arsenal’s front three, despite their fluidity, were unable to penetrate Forest’s deep defensive line. The Gunners’ passing looked crisp, but without a focal point up front, they struggled to generate clear-cut chances.
Riccardo Calafiori, the attacking left-back, took it upon himself to push forward and create something from open play. His determination almost paid off midway through the first half when he turned sharply in the box and fired a curling shot that rattled the post. It was a moment of individual brilliance, but it wasn’t enough to break the deadlock.
As the first half progressed, Arsenal continued to press, but Forest’s defence held firm. The hosts, while limited in possession, managed a couple of promising counter-attacks. However, they failed to muster a shot on target, and the game remained goalless heading into the break.
In the second half, Arsenal came close again from set pieces. Kieran Tierney, introduced at half-time, headed narrowly wide from a Martin Ødegaard corner. This period of pressure from Arsenal seemed to offer them the breakthrough, but Forest’s resolute defending thwarted their efforts. The visitors struggled to find the final ball or create clear openings, with their attacking play lacking the precision needed to finish moves.

Nottingham Forest, under Nuno Espírito Santo, had little to offer offensively for much of the second half. However, they eventually tested Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, with Chris Wood forcing a comfortable save after a neat combination with Morgan Gibbs-White. Forest’s resilience in defence was key, and as the match wore on, they began to frustrate their more illustrious visitors, who couldn’t find a way through.
As the game drew to a close, neither side could fashion a significant chance. Forest held strong, with Murillo producing an excellent clearance during an offside sequence to deny Arsenal any hope of a late winner. In the end, the stalemate that had seemed likely from the outset materialised, and both teams left the field with a single point.
For Arsenal, the result will feel like a missed opportunity. Their dominant possession was not matched by their attacking output, and with their eyes on Liverpool at the top of the table, dropping points in this manner could prove costly. Forest, on the other hand, will be pleased with their defensive performance but will also rue the missed opportunities to make more of their limited attacking forays.
