Chelsea could challenge Tottenham Hotspur for Wolves winger Adama Traore

According to The Football Terrace (h/t The Sun), Chelsea could deal a blow to Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore in the January transfer window. A bidding war could be on the cards if both parties follow through with their interest.

Spurs are apparently close to getting the services of Traore for a fee of £20million this month. They could also use Matt Doherty in an exchange deal to strengthen a key area in their squad. Antonio Conte is keen on bringing the winger to N17 to add more attacking impetus to the right-wing back position.

Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of the 25-year-old and wants to land him following Reece James’s injury setback. While Spurs are confident about completing a deal, the Blues would pose a considerable threat to their attempts. Conte’s side, meanwhile, are open to selling Steven Bergwijn to raise funds to meet their needs.

West Ham United have also shown an interest in the Spaniard, further increasing the competition for his signature. The North London club are also keeping tabs on the highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey, who is behind Traore in their transfer list.

Traore on the way to Spurs?

With Tuchel’s side possible entering the race, we have to be on our toes not to get leapfrogged by our London rivals. We should take advantage of the lead we have over them and finalise the transfer before they can even formally register their interest.

Being proactive in this case would greatly help us get a deal over the line for the Wolves star. Under Conte, Spurs are an exciting side who can only improve. Tottenham could offer Traore an exciting project to be a part of.

We can also offer Traore a bigger role in the first team as James’s eventual return could see Traore have to settle for a role off the bench. At 25, Traore should be headlining a side and there is little to be gained by him playing second fiddle.

With a big chunk of the transfer window still left to go, Fabio Paratici must land the Wanderers forward. If not, the West London side would have considerable time to prepare their offer and try to beat us in the process. Let’s hope that we hear a favourable outcome in the coming days as we desperately need some signings to boost the squad.
