The Premier League season is about to get back under way but we can barely remember what happened from August until March.

So in the build-up to the campaign’s resumption, we’re going to be reminding you of all the thrills and spills 2019/20 has had to offer so far.

Starting with August …

The headlines

Lampard’s baptism of fire

Frank Lampard’s first Premier League match in charge of Chelsea was one to forget as his side were trounced 4-0 away at Manchester United.

But the scoreline wasn’t really a fair reflection of the game as the Blues rattled the woodwork several times and were caught on the break in the second half.

That victory proved to be the only one United managed that month, while Lampard finally picked up his first three points with a 3-2 win away at Norwich on 24 August.

VAR loses friends and alienates people

The 2019/20 season of course welcomed the advent of VAR to the Premier League, and it didn’t take long before people were yearning for simpler times.

There were numerous big VAR calls in the first month of the campaign, with the most notable being Gabriel Jesus’s disallowed stoppage time strike in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Perfect Reds lead the way

That result for City meant Liverpool ended the month top of the table as the only Premier League side with a 100% record.

And they’ve remained in that position ever since.
