Transfer News: Manchester United eyeing Callum Hudson-Odoi as Sancho alternative

According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United could turn to Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea as Jadon Sancho’s alternative. Hudson-Odoi is among three names United are looking at as alternatives. The other two are Cristiano Ronaldo and Ousmane Dembele.

Hudson-Odoi burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in the 2018/19 season, where he made 24 senior appearances. However, he has become a fringe player over the last season as Chelsea made a host of signings last summer.

The English winger was also not helped by Thomas Tuchel’s arrival and subsequent switch to a back-three formation. He was given chances to play as a right-wingback but in the last few games of the season, it was either Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta starting there.

Manchester United have long been after Jadon Sancho, albeit unsuccessfully. The club are again set to pursue the Dortmund winger this summer. However, they have drawn up a shortlist of alternatives if the Sancho deal is off. Among them is Chelsea starlet Hudson-Odoi. He is supposedly on the market after struggling for games. Bayern have also shown some interest in him.

The 20-year-old Chelsea academy graduate is not coming off the best of seasons. He has been bogged down by competition and a change of formation. Letting him leave on a temporary deal or even a sale might not be such a bad idea. However, we should not be selling to United, who are direct rivals.
