Transfer News: Wolverhampton Wanderers among PL clubs to target Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek this month

According to Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad (h/t Manchester Evening News), Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the Premier League clubs that have identified Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek, as a transfer target this month. He has not enjoyed that much of a turnaround in his fortunes under Ralf Rangnick compared to his days under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Van de Beek’s situation with Man United is stated to become “more and more hopeless” due to the lack of minutes under his belt. He was once again left as an unused substitute during the 3-1 win against Brentford in the Premier League. His time at Old Trafford may be truly coming to an end amidst interest from several parties.

A move in the January transfer window “seems inevitable” due to the current circumstances. Newcastle United and Everton are also keeping tabs on the situation as they look to sign the 24-year-old. The Toffees were close to getting him the previous summer, but Solskajer was a stumbling block in the process.

End of the line?

One would feel for what the Dutchman is going through right now, as this would not have been in his mind when he joined us initially. Following his impressive displays at Ajax, many thought he would have a similar role with us, but it never seemed like that was the case at all.

The Man United attacking midfielder had a chance to leave ahead of this season in search of more minutes. The move was blocked, and in hindsight, we can now question why that was the case if there were no plans for him in the first place. The club should look to find a solution this month before the market closes down.

Since Wolves, Newcastle and the Merseyside club are pursuing the Dutch international, letting him go wouldn’t really be a bad option as letting him rot on the bench would not do us or the player any good. And while Wolves are keen on signing a Man United midfielder, we too have had our eyes on Ruben Neves earlier this month, who has been a target for us.

van de Beek was once again left on the bench in our game against West Ham United earlier today. If Rangnick does have plans for him, we have to utilise the Red Devils ace more since getting the best out of him would only favour us in the end.

With a chunk of the season still left to be played and considering how we are in multiple competitions, it would be wise to keep the Dutch star. However, it must result in increased game time for the ex-Ajax ace.
