According to Football Insider, as relayed by Wales Online, Premier League side Everton are keeping tabs on the situation of Manchester United winger Daniel James, with a January move in the works.
The 23-year-old James joined Manchester United in the summer of 2019 from EFL Championship side Swansea City. The winger made a rocking start to life in the top-flight, quickly establishing himself as a regular in the starting XI.
However, after a successful couple of months, James has never quite been able to hit the same heights. His decline in form, coupled with Mason Greenwood’s rise in stature saw him lose his place in the side in the second half of the last season.
James has struggled for game time in the ongoing campaign as well, making just five appearances across all competitions, failing to score or assist a single goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
James was a subject of interest from Leeds United back in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise. And now, Everton have emerged as a potential suitor for the Wales international, with a loan move being eyed. (h/t Wales Online)
While James’ camp have previously been against the idea of a loan exit, that stance could change in January as the European Championships loom large, with the winger being aware that he needs regular game-time ahead of the major tournament. (h/t Wales Online)
Given James’ situation, a loan move would certainly do him a world of good. And, with Amad Diallo set to arrive at the club in January and the likelihood of Facundo Pellistri also being integrated into the first-team could enable United to allow the Welshman leave on a temporary spell.
