A strong finish to the season in 2021/22 led Brighton to ninth place, their highest ever finish in the Premier League.
That run included an incredible 4-0 win over Manchester United, and Brighton will kick off the new campaign with a trip to face Erik ten Hag’s side. The Seagulls have never won at Old Trafford, but boss Graham Potter has won the first away game in each of his three seasons in charge.
Can Brighton begin the new campaign where they left off?
In: Julio Encisco (Libertad, £9.5m), Simon Adingra (Nordsjælland, £6.9m)
Out: Yves Bissouma (Tottenham, £25m), Leo Østigard (Napoli, £4.2m), Jason Molumby (West Brom, £1m), Lars Dendoncker (released), Tudor Baluta (Farul Constanța, free), Abdallah Sima (Angers, loan), Aaron Connolly (Venezia, loan), Haydon Roberts (Derby, loan)
Transfer balance: +£13.8m
Brighton will once again look to Genk youth product Leandro Trossard to come up with the goods this season.
The 27-year-old fired in eight goals and provided three assists in 2021/22, finishing as the club’s joint-top scorer alongside Neal Maupay.
Creative with a nose for goal and an ability to beat his man, Trossard has become a lynchpin of Graham Potter’s Brighton, having made 100 Premier League appearances for the club in the last three seasons.
Key midfielder Yves Bissouma has been snapped up by Tottenham, and it’s looking like Marc Cucurella could leaving before the window shuts too.
The departure of those players represent big losses for Brighton, and their fate next season all depends on whether Potter can weave his magic on the squad members that remain and the players who come in to replace them.
(3-5-2) — Sánchez; Veltman, Dunk, Cucurella; Lamptey, Mwepu, Caicedo, Groß, Adingra; MacAllister, Undav
