The 2022/23 season represents a fresh start for Manchester United and the arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag brings reasons for optimism but perhaps also reasons for trepidation.

After a blistering start to his United career, last season was one to forget from Bruno’s point of view.
Whether the playmaker’s loss of form was collateral damage in the accommodation of Cristiano Ronaldo remains a mystery, but he will be determined to put a disappointing campaign behind him and turn over a new leaf.
The football Ten Hag is trying to instil should have Bruno at the heart of it, and there will be plenty of opportunities for goals and assists coming his way.
And perhaps the arrival of Christian Eriksen will ease the creative burden on the Portuguese international’s shoulders somewhat.
It has been a while since we’ve seen Bruno playing football with a smile on his face and if United are to be a success next season, that has to change.
Pretty much everything.
In Ten Hag it feels like United finally have a coach who can bring them into the 21st century and they will be hoping the Dutchman’s possession-based style of play will be both enjoyable to watch and wildly successful.
Wild success probably isn’t going to come overnight but the early signs in pre-season look good and if the club and the fans can patiently unite behind the project, it should bear fruit in time.
Paul Pogba is gone but Eriksen’s arrival at Old Trafford is an intriguing one, and the signings of Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martínez both bring reasons for optimism.
But at the time of writing a deal for Frenkie de Jong has not yet been struck with Barcelona, and a quality holding midfielder simply has to arrive before the transfer window closes.
Whether Ronaldo is still a United player come September is another pivotal question.
