Last season was a campaign to forget for everyone on the blue half of Merseyside.

But can some stability and the coaching prowess of Frank Lampard take Everton back to where they belong?

🔑 Key player: Jordan Pickford

With a World Cup just four months away there’s never been a more crucial time for Jordan Pickford to show just how good he can be at club level.

Pickford has been undroppable for the Toffees over the past few years. There have been some high profile clangers along the way but the 28-year-old also capable of producing genuinely breath-taking moments

His double save at home to Chelsea late last season immediately comes to mind and was a key moment in Frank Lampard’s side’s survival.

More of that is needed if the Merseyside outfit are to have a foundation to build on this term.

What has changed since last season? 🤔

Frank Lampard has lost his main goal threat during the off-season, with Richarlison joining Tottenham in a deal worth an initial £50m.

So far the Goodison Park outfit have failed to reinvest that money in a premium-rate forward, although their sole bit of business so far has been impressive.

James Tarkowski has joined from Burnley and brings a wealth of Premier League experience and a commanding presence at the back, all while some deadweight has been moved on.

In many ways Lampard has flattered to deceive during his managerial career so far but the expectation must surely be that Everton are not stuck in the same predicament as last season.
