The Premier League season roared back into life with an enjoyable opening weekend of action.
But it is a familiar face who is yet again crowned our Player of the Week …
Well it couldn’t be anyone else could it?
Liverpool’s Egyptian king took just one matchday to shoot to the top of the Premier League scoring charts with a hat-trick against newly-promoted Leeds.
Two of them came from the penalty spot, one of which he earned himself with a strike which was blocked with an arm.
Those goals sandwiched arguably the strike of the weekend too, with his second of the evening a glorious piece of execution, trapping the ball dead before whipping an unstoppable strike into the roof of the net.
His talents have been obvious for a long time but even his coach seemed impressed by this latest star turn from the ex-Roma man – insisting it wasn’t just about the hat-trick.
“He’s a very special player. A very, very special player.”
“The numbers tell the story a bit but the rest you probably don’t know,” Klopp added. “This is a very good example, though.
“He got three goals but the performance all-round was absolutely exceptional and deserved those goals because he was constantly present, causing the opposition massive problems.
“With all of the good performances he’s had for us, this was one of the better ones. He should be proud of that because it is very special to have these kind of numbers.”
And what of those numbers that the German tactician is talking about?
He became the first Liverpool player to net an opening day hat-trick in 32 years and eclipsed a league record for ensuring his goals lead to victories by doing so.
Oh and he’s also the only Reds player ever to find the net on the opening weekend of four consecutive league seasons too.
Start as you mean to go on, Mo!
