The Premier League has returned after some thrilling midweek action from across Europe.

With Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all in action – here’s what went down …

Landmark Mané goal inspires Reds win

Liverpool 3
Crystal Palace 0
Full time

Scorers: Mané 43′, Salah 78′, Keita 90′

Liverpool endured a lacklustre first half at Anfield but should have been ahead when Jota somehow blazed over from close range.

The hosts did eventually make their breakthrough, when Sadio Mané reacted well after Vicente Guaita had initially saved from Thiago – netting his 100th goal for the club.

Mohamed Salah doubled their lead with a much-needed predatory finish, before Naby Keïta concluded the scoring with a stunning volley.

Ødegaard stunner makes the difference

Burnley 0
Arsenal 1
Full time

Scorers: Ødegaard 31′

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to create chances until Martin Ødegaard fired a stunning free-kick beyond Nick Pope.

However, Burnley grew into the game and thought they’d won a penalty when Aaron Ramsdale brought down Matej Vydra – although replays later showed he won the ball.

But despite some nervy moments (and some terrible finishing), the Gunners secured back-to-back wins while Burnley stay winless.

City struggle against spritely Saints

Manchester City 0
Southampton 0
Full time

Scorers: N/A

It’s honours even between Manchester City and Southampton who cancelled each other out for 45 minutes.

City grew into the game after the Saints’ strong start, with Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gündogan both going close but failed to test Alex McCarthy.

The second-half brought a moment of controversy after Kyle Walker was dismissed – and a penalty awarded – for what looked like a soft challenge Adam Armstrong.

Both decisions were overturned upon VAR review but City were left frustrated as they couldn’t break down the away side.

Hornets string Canaries at Carrow Road

Norwich City 1
Watford 3
Full time

Scorers: Pukki 35′; Dennis 17′

It was Watford who broke the deadlock when Kiko Femenía crossed brilliantly for Emmanuel Dennis to head home.

But the hosts were level shortly after when Teemu Pukki finished well after being played through by Mathias Normann.

Ismaïla Sarr struck in the second-half to restore Watford’s lead, before adding another late on to secure all three points.

Toney inspires big away win

Wolves 0
Brentford 2
Full time

Scorers: Toney (pen) 28′, Mbeumo 34′

Brentford secured their second Premier League win of the season thanks to goals from Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo.

The visitors were reduced to ten-men in the second half with Shandon Baptiste dismissed, but Wolves couldn’t find the net.
