Ilaix Moriba is ‘unlikely’ to sign a new deal at Barcelona following an ‘unexpected twist’ with several Premier League sides monitoring the midfielder’s situation.

Moriba is out of contract next summer but talks over an extension have failed to progress between the player’s representatives and Barcelona, who believe they have ‘done everything they can’ to secure the 18-year-old’s long-term future.

The youngster held talks with the club on Wednesday in a bid to find a resolution, though according to Spanish publication Sport‘no ground’ was made in the meeting, with the club now having taken a ‘step back’ from the discussions.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the teenager and the report says that an extension at the Camp Nou for Moriba is now ‘unlikely’.

Moriba broke into the senior side last season and made 18 appearances in all competitions and is keen to vastly improve his salary, and has now been excluded from Ronald Koeman’s pre-season plans amid his uncertain future and will not take part in Barca B’s fixture against La Grama on Thursday.

The Spanish side now face a decision on whether to sell Moriba during the current window, or run the risk of losing the promising talent on a free transfer next summer.
