Premier League confirm new date for Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion fixture

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), the Premier League has provided a new date for the Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion fixture that was postponed back in December. The match was forced to be rescheduled due to a Covid-19 breakout within the Carrington camp.

The league officials have decided that the game will now take place on Tuesday, February 15. The match will kick-off at 8.15 pm GMT, where both teams will try to get the better of each other in their pursuit of meeting their respective season’s objectives. The fixture was supposed to take place on December 18 when Man United suffered the setback.

This game will also be subjected to the new rules implemented by the governing body regarding future postponements. As a result, clubs must now have four positive coronavirus cases inside their camp to fall under the category of teams that can apply for their games to be postponed. They have also declared that fans are no longer required to carry Covid passes to enter stadiums.

Good for us?

This match would take place between the two clashes against Southampton and Leeds United on 12th February and 20th February respectively. While we would have preferred for the game to not interfere with our fixture list in February, this is a decent outcome for us, given the number of days between the three fixtures.

It would ensure that the squad does not get run down to the ground ahead of the crucial clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. The game against the Spanish side takes place on 23rd February, so perhaps the game against Leeds United could use some game-time management for our top players.

Chelsea have played the most games this season with 24 matches and we are two games behind them. So getting a good rescheduled date can now ensure that there is not that much fixture congestion in the future as it would have hampered our chances of qualifying for the CL next term.

The Seagulls, managed by Graham Potter, would demand the utmost physicality from his players to overcome our team. They have fared well despite the injury issues that kept plaguing them throughout the season. Having a good couple of days for rest in the build-up to the match would be of great help to Ralf Rangnick in preparing the team.

Trailing third-placed Chelsea by 9 points right now, we can close the gap to 3 if we win the two games in our hands. But that is easier said than done and our team has to be prepared for an important month ahead.
