Tottenham become latest team to enter transfer race for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard

A report by TalkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail) states that Tottenham are one of three Premier League teams interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard this month.

Tottenham are looking for a loan move for the Englishman until the end of the season.

They are joined by fellow Premier League clubs Sheffield United and West Ham United in the race to sign him on a loan deal for the rest of the season. A move to Spurs would see him reunite with Jose Mourinho. (h/t Daily Mail)

Lingard won the Europa League at United under Mourinho in 2017. The very next season, he scored 13 goals in what remains his most prolific campaign.

Where will he go?

Sheffield United are currently in a relegation battle. With just one win at the halfway mark of the season, they look as good as relegated. On the other hand, West Ham United have done well though.

Managed by David Moyes, another manager Lingard played under at United, the Hammers are 7th in the table. Apart from the English clubs, Lingard has also courted interest from abroad.

French club Nice, and Portuguese side FC Porto are keen on signing the 28-year-old. Lingard is out of favour this season as all of his 3 appearances have come in domestic cup competitions.

Despite that, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not too willing to see the former Derby County midfielder leave Old Trafford, who has 18 months left on his current contract. (h/t Daily Mail)

The fixture list is going to get tighter in February, and the possibility of an unexpected Covid-19 outbreak looms perennially. Nevertheless, United should not miss him too much if he does leave on loan.
