Steve Bruce eyeing three Manchester United players this summer

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United legend Steve Bruce is keeping an eye on three Red Devil stars in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies finished 12th in the Premier League last season and will be keen to do better in the upcoming campaign. He appears to be keen to make use of his connections at United in order to bring in reinforcements at St. James Park.

Bruce’s preference appears to be to strengthen his defence and has earmarked three United stars. Given that the Magpies had the fifth-worst defence in the league last year, it comes as no surprise.

The three players on Newcastle’s radar are Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Brandon Williams. According to the report, the Newcastle boss has been asked to be kept informed on any developments regarding their futures.

There could be some joy for Bruce on all three fronts. United are ready to loan out Williams this summer after the player’s growth hit a roadblock last campaign. According to The Metro, Newcastle could land themselves the initiative provided they are ready to offer the youngster regular game time.

Tuanzebe too is keen to increase his game time and is seeking a loan switch this summer. The 23-year-old is effectively the fourth-choice centre-back at Old Trafford and could fall lower down the order if United bring in a new player. A move to Newcastle will give Tuanzebe the chance to garner top-flight experience and enhance his reputation.

Jones meanwhile has suffered from injuries that have prevented him from leaving an indelible mark at United. The Englishman failed to make a single appearance last season and is largely the forgotten man at Old Trafford.

It is in everyone’s best interests that he allowed to move on and reignite his career elsewhere.

  • Newcastle and Southampton keen on Manchester United starlet Brandon Williams
  • Manchester United chiefs convinced that David de Gea is the man to start in goal next season
  • Jose Mourinho questions Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes for his Euro 2020 failing

The likes of Tuanzebe and Williams have potential but are unlikely to get the game time they desire at United. Letting them depart on loan this summer will be a win-win for all parties involved.
