Well, 2022 ended with a bang and 2023 began with another. What a Premier League weekend!

Here are our awards

The Dua Lipa ‘One Shot Is All It Takes’ Award

Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss” has become something of a Liverpool anthem, so please excuse us for repurposing it for their cross-city rivals here.

But what a shot it was from Demarai Gray. Everton did have another shot, four minutes later, from miles out and it posed no real threat. It really was just one hit out of nowhere that saw the Toffees win a shock point on Saturday.

The Sleeping Giant Award

Marcus Rashford, benched for oversleeping, inevitably came off the bench to score Manchester United’s winner at Wolves.

And with that, became the joint leader for winners scored as a sub (five) in Premier League history.

The Still Snoozing Award for Slow Starters

Marcus Rashford may have woken up eventually but Tottenham are falling ever deeper into a slumber
they have now conceded the opener in seven consecutive Premier League games.

Someone needs a wake-up call.

The No Place Like Home Award

Obviously, that meant Unai Emery’s return to north London went just as he would have planned it.

The Award For Most In-Form Norwegian Player

Martin Ødegaard or Erling Haaland?

Not just the battle for best Norwegian in the league, but possibly for the most in-form player in the entire league, all nationalities considered.

They are both on fire.

The Travel Sickness Award

Graham Potter’s Chelsea have just two points from their last four Premier League away games. It is not looking great.

The Plus Ça Change Award

Poor Southampton. Nathan Jones has come in but they are still really struggling, bar James Ward-Prowse from dead ball situations.

They’ll need things to improve soon as, rock bottom of the league, it’s not looking good.
