Player of the Weekend

Four assists Jérémy Doku? FOUR? That’s insane.

It was that kind of afternoon for Manchester City’s Belgian wing wizard in their 6-1 rout of Bournemouth on Saturday.

Doku opened the scoring with his third goal for the club since joining from Rennes in the summer, before assisting four others over the course of the afternoon, with his sublime pass to play in Bernardo Silva being the pick of the bunch.

The 21-year-old’s quick, tricky feet have added another lethal weapon to the champions’ arsenal, and we’ll no doubt be seeing plenty more of that Griddy celebration in the coming weeks and months.

Goal of the Weekend

West Ham ultimately came away from their five-goal thriller at Brentford with nothing to show for their efforts, but at least the goal of the weekend was scored by Mohammed Kudus.

Kudos to him for the excellent technique on that scissor kick.

Result of the Weekend

Boy, did Sheffield United need that win over Wolves.

The Blades had lost nine of their first 10 matches of the season and things were looking bleak at Bramall Lane, especially when Jean Ricner-Bellegarde’s 89th-minute equaliser for Wolves looked set to deny Paul Heckingbottom’s side their first win in frustrating fashion.

But there was to be another twist, with Fábio Silva conceding a late penalty, which Oliver Norwood coolly dispatched in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

United remain bottom of the table, but they will be hoping this result kickstarts their season now.

Surprise of the Weekend

Another team in relegation danger were denied a famous victory by a late goal, but didn’t they do well?

Few would have expected Luton Town to get any kind of result at all against Liverpool before kick-off, but the Hatters played as if they had nothing to lose on Sunday, with the likes of Issa Kabore, Ross Barkley and Chiedozie Ogbene all starring, and Tahith Chong netting what appeared to be the winning goal.

However Luis Díaz – coming off the bench for the first time since his parents were kidnapped in Colombia – had other ideas, with a late equaliser to earn Liverpool a point.

Still, if Rob Edwards’s side keep playing like that, they could give every team in the league something to worry about this season.

Stat of the Weekend

There was a time in the Sean Dyche days when Turf Moor was considered a tough place to go, but Burnley’s 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday was their sixth home defeat of the season.

Per Opta, the Clarets are the first side in English top-flight history to lose all six of their first home games of a season.

Manager Vincent Kompany has got to find a solution to his side’s woes, and quickly.

It’s fair to say Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was not happy with the decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s winning goal for Newcastle when the two sides met at St James’ Park on Saturday.

“How the hell did this goal stand up? It’s incredible,” said Arteta post-match.

“I feel embarrassed. It’s an absolute disgrace that this was allowed. For many reasons it’s not a goal.

“It’s so difficult to compete at this level. This is nowhere near the [refereeing] level to describe this as the best league in the world. I feel sick to be part of this.”

Arsenal then also released an official club statement backing up their manager’s comments on Sunday, but the Spaniard can no doubt expect to hear from the FA and will likely receive a punishment for his trouble.
