Pioli discusses Ibra’s deeper role, Pobega’s development and Kessie or Tonali as attacking midfielder | OneFootball

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli praised the development of Tommaso Pobega at Torino and discussed Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s position on the field.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered for his pre-match press conference at Milanello on the eve of the game against Torino at San Siro, with his comments relayed by MilanNews. He was asked whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s deeper position on the field a choice of his or simply down to the characteristics of the Swede.

“Both. It doesn’t matter who we have between the lines, but we have to stay there. We made an excellent move after the first red card for Bologna. We must have players between the lines, players in behind and open: if they are not always the same, then, it means that we are still a little more unpredictable,” he said.

Pioli was also asked about Andrea Belotti who continues to be linked with a move to Milan, and also Tommaso Pobega who is currently on loan with the Granata from the Rossoneri.

“I expect a combative and proactive Torino. I don’t even know if Belotti will play or not, the attitude with which he will enter the field is not my problem. Tommaso is doing very well. He has the right characteristics for Juric’s game, he is constantly growing.”

Milan have perhaps struggled somewhat in Brahim Diaz’s absence to find a concrete link between the midfield and the front four players, with Rade Krunic and Daniel Maldini being tried in the playmaker role without much impact.

Pioli was questioned on whether he could consider using Sandro Tonali or even Franck Kessie as an attacking midfielder to help create a bit more presence in the final third.

“At the beginning of the game, no because we have Krunic and Maldini who know how to play in that role. It is important to have all four midfielders available.”
