AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu will likely miss the Serie A clash against Napoli next week through injury.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia, Kalulu has been diagnosed with a calf injury which he sustained during the international break with the French U-21 team.

Further tests will be carried out, but it looks increasingly likely that he will be unavailable for the clash against the Partenopei when the league resumes after the international break.

Milan also fear that Kalulu could miss the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Napoli on April 13.

The 22-year-old had his breakout season last term, being instrumental in Milan’s Serie A title win after 11 years.

As a reward for his impressive work, Kalulu was also handed a new contract by Milan last October.

He continues to be a regular for Stefano Pioli’s side, having made 37 appearances in all competitions this term.

However, compared to the previous season, Kalulu has suffered a significant dip in his performances this term, having come under scrutiny for his substandard displays.

Despite this, the French centre-back remains the first choice for Pioli, and his absence could prove costly.

Rossoneri have endured a turbulent campaign, looking far from their best in Serie A. However, they have exceeded expectations in the Champions League.

Milan are hanging onto fourth position in Serie A by a thread, with Roma trailing them by just one point.

They are desperate for a victory against leaders Napoli next week to keep their top-four chances alive.

Simon Kjaer is expected to get more chances in Kalulu’s absence.
