Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has revealed his personal ambitions as speculation about his future grows.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of transfer gossip in recent weeks as he heads into the final year of his contract at St.Marys.
Everton and Tottenham have been two of the clubs who have been strongly linked with a move for the Danish international.
The Saints are currently 14th in the Premier League table, seven points above the drop zone, and in an interview with Sport 1, Højbjerg spoke about his aspirations for the future:
“I know what I want, the club knows it too.
“I want to play at a higher level than I am currently.”
Højbjerg joined Southampton from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in 2016 and has made 129 appearances for the club.
“The relationship between me and the club is fantastic. The club gave me the platform to grow.
“I’m not saying ‘Goodbye’ and I’m focused on my club, but my goal is very clear: I want to win the Premier League and Champions League.
“When I was 23 I became captain in a Premier League club. Now I’m hungry to get to the next level.”
