Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea lasted just 59 minutes.
The pair worked together at Borussia Dortmund and Aubameyang admitted his decision to sign for Chelsea this summer was largely down to Tuchel.
“Yeah, definitely yes,” he said when asked if he was happy to be managed by Tuchel again.
“It will be another again, and obviously I will enjoy it because we had some good times in Dortmund. I’m really happy to play for him again.”
Meanwhile, Tuchel echoed Aubameyang’s sentiment.
I can only say the best things about Auba as a player and as a person. I enjoyed a lot working with him while I was at Dortmund.
“Some players stay your players because you were very, very close, and Auba is one of those players. There was always straightaway this close bond. They always stay your players in a way.
“We depend on him and will not achieve any of our objectives without him. If Aubameyang is in top form, we are confident of scoring goals at any given moment.”
Shortly before making the move from Barcelona, Aubameyang was victim of a robbery and suffered a broken jaw.
It meant he had to wait to make his full Chelsea debut.
But, sporting a protective mask, he pulled on the blue of Chelsea for the first time as they faced Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League clash.
However, it wasn’t a debut to remember for Aubameyang.
He suffered a difficult night as Chelsea were shocked by the Croatian side, losing 1-0.
The Gabon striker lasted just 59 minutes and failed to threaten the opposition at all during that time.
Now, footage has emerged of his every touch during a debut to forget.
After his debut, Tuchel was in no mood to discuss the performance of Aubameyang.
“I will not talk about individuals today,” he replied when asked to rate Aubameyang’s debut.
“We play as a team, we lose as a team. That’s what it is.”
Aubameyang will have to recover from a disappointing debut under a different manager to the one who wanted him at Stamford Bridge.
