Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has revealed he is well on his way to recovery, with the support of his loved ones, in a heartwarming post-op update from his hospital bed.

Martinez sustained an ACL injury during United’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace earlier this month.

He underwent successful surgery to correct the issue and it’s expected he will be out for anywhere between six to 12 months as he undergoes rehabilitation.

In his first update after going under the knife, Martinez highlighted the “sadness and helplessness” he felt after sustaining the ACL injury.

The 27-year-old wrote on X, “Today, after going through several stormy days where I allowed myself to feel and accept my sadness, helplessness, insecurities, fears, and a deep emotional imbalance, I am reconnecting with my essence and my values, which help me see things from a kinder and more positive perspective.”

“I feel immense gratitude for the incredible work and support of Manchester United, Argentina, my family, friends, teammates, and everyone who took the time to send me a message of encouragement.”

He added, “The surgery went perfectly!! Now it’s time to give it my all, with heart and soul, in the rehabilitation process.”

Before United’s 2-1 comeback win over Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, the players wore special shirts to support Martinez.

The shirts carried the message, “Mucha fuerza, Licha.” This translates to “Much strength, Licha!”

With Martinez out, January signing Ayden Heaven is now the only fit left-footed centre-back available to Ruben Amorim for selection.

The youngster was signed from Premier League rivals Arsenal but has yet to taste first-team action.

United are back in action later today when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the capital.
