Italian football is known for going through coaches quickly, but Piacenza must’ve set a new record by going through three tacticians in one day.
Genoa sacked Alberto Gilardino today and brought in Patrick Vieira, while Roma are already on their third coach of the season, the fourth in 2024.
However, Piacenza in Serie D managed something truly remarkable this week.
They sacked Carmine Parlato and director of sport Alessio Sestu in the morning, hiring Simone Bentivoglio to take over.
He held one training session, which was interrupted by an angry fan protest that saw them invade the ground and demand that he be dismissed, threatening to boycott all matches.
They were furious because Bentivoglio had been involved in a gambling scandal in 2011, where he accepted a plea bargain of a 13-month ban.
Bentivoglio was in charge for barely a couple of hours before the club accepted this was not going to work and terminated his contract by mutual consent.
Instead, Piacenza ended up recalling Stefano Rossini that evening, the coach who had only been fired on October 7 to make way for Parlato.
The club had been a regular in Serie A, but was declared bankrupt in 2012.
