The January transfer window is about to open, and while there’s a lot of chat about players who could leave Chelsea, there’s not so much talk about players who could maybe come in.

That should be no surprise – the squad still has a few extra bodies who didn’t get a kick even with a fully separated cup team. Now that the Europa Conference League group stage is over, those two teams will converge even further, meaning fewer minutes all around.

So even someone like Cesare Casadei, who got a few starts between August and December, looks set to be moved on.

CaughtOffside today report that Lazio have joined the list of teams keen to sign the midfielder. As many as seven of them have been reported as interested. Casadei has shown flashes of talent but is miles from being a first team regular, and clearly he and the club feel it’s the right time to move him on and cash in.

After showing what he can do in European football in a few cameos, there seem to be a lot of teams ready to take a punt.

Chelsea happy to sell – but in no rush to move on midfielder

We’ve seen a number of Serie A teams linked with Casadei, plus more exotic options like Feyenoord or Real Betis. We expect him to return to Italy however, with Lazio, AC Milan and Fiorentina all apparently keen. Chelsea will want a decent fee for their talent however, and if it’s not forthcoming, they’ll just sit and wait.

He’s got plenty of contract left, and could easily see his value improved by a 6 month loan somewhere if necessary. The one thing we’re sure is that he’s unlikely to be kicking around Cobham for another 6 months.
