Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu assisted the Nerazzurri’s opening goal in their 2-0 Serie A win over Como yesterday.
The Turkish international took the corner from which Carlos Augusto headed home to break the deadlock.
Calhanoglu has proven a reliable penalty-taker for Inter. He has been an expert set piece-taker in general.
Calhanoglu has also shown a knack for scoring some spectacular goals in his career. Particularly from long range.
And the 30-year-old has also been Inter’s first choice penalty-takers. Despite his miss from the spot against Napoli this season, he remains one of Europe’s most accurate penalty-takers by far.
All of this means that, even as Calhanoglu has moved deeper and deeper into midfield he has continued to make plenty of contributions.
With his assist for Augusto against Como, the Turk reached 150 in European club competition.
And as football stats account Opta note, only four other midfielders have done that since Calhanoglu started playing in the 2013-14 season.
Opta tweeted after Calhanoglu’s assist, “Hakan #Çalhanoglu has been involved in 150 goals in Big-5 European leagues (76G+74A); since his Bundesliga debut (2013/14) only 4 midfielders have had a hand in 150+ goals: De Bruyne (223), Marco Reus (172), Ángel Di Maria (170), Dimitri Payet (162). Milestone.”
