In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Everton striker Kevin Phillips tipped Millwall winger Jed Wallace to be a great signing for West Ham United. Phillips said,

“Wallace is a solid Championship player. What David Moyes does is go for good, solid players who he can rely on.

“We have seen that with the signings of Bowen etc. That is really important for Moyes.

“He wants players who step up when the chips are down. He doesn’t want players who go missing when things start to go pear-shaped. Jed Wallace is a seasoned professional and I think he’d be a great signing for West Ham, just like Bowen.”

Wallace’s Impressive Form In The Championship This Season

Wallace has made an excellent start to this campaign after putting in a few influential displays as a key member of Millwall’s attack. The Reading-born winger has featured in eight matches for the Lions this season, netting three goals and providing two assists on all fronts.

The 27-year-old has been a consistent performer at the Den as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 2.1 shots, 2.1 key passes, 2.1 crosses and 1.4 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship so far. However, he has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 66.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Should The Hammers Move In For Wallace?

Wallace is a hard-working winger who can make some quick runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the attacking third of the field and is not shy of having a strike at goal when afforded time and space by the opposition.

The English sensation has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Championship over the past 18 months. However, only time will tell whether he has what it takes to make the step up and keep performing at a similar level in the Premier League if West Ham decide to get him on board in January or at the end of this campaign.

At 27, Wallace is currently playing at his prime and could make an instant impact at the London Stadium. An experienced manager like David Moyes will be the perfect man to get the best out of the Millwall star at the English capital in the coming seasons.

Even though Wallace won’t be guaranteed a regular first-team place at the East London club, yet he will undeniably increase competition for places within Moyes’ match-day squad. Therefore, it makes sense for the Hammers to move in for the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers wide player in the not-too-distant future, especially when he is set to become a free agent at the end of this season.
