Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 fixture against Clermont Foot, AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement defended goalkeeper Alexander Nübel (26), who had a night to forget against Trabzonspor on Thursday.
The Bayern Munich loanee was at fault for the first goal as his pass out from the back struck Malang Sarr on its way into the goal. Although there was arguably little he could have done for the second or third goals, Nübel got a hand to Trézéguet’s shot from a tight angle, but couldn’t keep it out.
Speaking during Saturday’s pre-match press conference, Clement defended his goalkeeper. “We will have to speak with him as we do with all goalkeepers that make an error. He has grown a lot and he has been very important, but in the second half on Thursday, he didn’t perform as he has in past months. He mustn’t mull over it,” he said.
