Manchester City came back from behind to seal victory away at Brentford thanks to a fine hattrick from Phil Foden.
Scorers: Maupay 21′; Foden 45+3′, 53′, 70′.
City expectedly dominated possession and the small chances early on but it was the home side who took a shock lead through Neal Maupay.
The Everton loanee ran onto Mark Flekken’s long goal kick, which was smartly left by Ivan Toney, and finished calmly into the bottom left corner after 21 minutes.
The Bees held firm as City kept knocking at the door but their defence was eventually broken on the stroke of halftime when Foden volleyed home the equaliser after a defensive lapse in concentration.
City continued their momentum into the second half, taking the lead early on as Foden headed home a pinpoint cross from Kevin De Bruyne into the bottom right corner for his brace.
Christian Nørgaard had a golden chance to level the scores at the hour mark when Toney’s cut back found the Norwegian in the box, but Rodri made a vital block to deny the West London side.
Brentford were then made to pay for their miss as Foden wriggled through their back line to complete his hattrick, putting the game to bed and breaking a Premier League record for goals in a matchweek.
The win sees City move above Arsenal into second in the table on goal difference but two points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand while Brentford remain 15th, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
