Manchester City forward Phil Foden has returned to training after recovering from a recurring foot injury ahead of a visit to Tottenham on Sunday.

The England international has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.

Foden was brought off after 57 minutes in City’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United two weeks ago, with Pep Guardiola confirming the 22-year-old picked up an injury at Old Trafford.

The Stockport-born attacker returned to the bench for his boyhood club’s subsequent win from behind against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the foot issue reappeared in training ahead of Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Wolves and Foden was deemed unfit to feature against Julen Lopetegui’s men.

Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish have been in encouraging form for Guardiola in the wide attacking positions in Phil Foden’s absence.

Ahead of this weekend’s visit to Tottenham, Guardiola has been handed a welcome boost as Foden has returned to full training after a minor spell on the sidelines.

It remains to be seen if the Manchester City academy graduate will feature in north London from the off as Pep Guardiola will be wary of rushing his star forward back into action.

Following successive losses to Southampton and Manchester United amidst a busy January, the Blues have recorded three wins on the spin against Tottenham, Wolves and Arsenal.

City remain in second place in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand over the reigning English champions ahead of a tricky test away at Everton on Saturday.

Guardiola’s men registered their place in the FA Cup fifth round with a hard-fought win against Mikel Arteta and co last week.

Foden’s return comes at a time when Manchester City need their big guns firing on all fronts as they aim for a treble of trophies come the end of the season.
