The PGMOL have confirmed that Luis Díaz’s disallowed goal against Tottenham on Saturday evening should have stood after all.

The Colombian appeared to fire Liverpool into the lead despite the Reds being down to ten men after Curtis Jones was sent off, but the strike was controversially chalked off for offside.

Liverpool went on to lose the dramatic showdown after a last-second Joel Matip own-goal, but the balance of the game appeared to swing after the decision.

“PGMOL acknowledge significant human error during Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool,” a statement said.

“The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded.”

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp had his own say on the incident after the match.

“The offside goal,” he said “That is not offside when you see it, they drew their lines wrong.”
