The Posh have long held interest in the central defender and are keen to bring him to London Road this summer.

And their efforts to sign Taylor have ramped up following the departure of defender Emmanuel Fernandez, who has left for Rangers in a deal worth a reported £3.5m.

Peterborough also face competition from other League One clubs for Taylor’s signature, however.

Taylor was named Bristol Rovers’ player of the season for the last campaign, making 48 appearances in all competitions for the Gas, who were relegated to League Two last term.

He signed for Bristol Rovers on a permanent deal in 2023 from Stoke City, having spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Rovers, playing a key role as they were promoted from League Two before returning to parent club Stoke for a season, where he played 14 times in the Championship.

Peterborough are set to be active in the transfer market with Kwame Poku, Malik Mothersille, Ricky Jade-Jones and Hector Kyprianou also among the players to depart this summer.
