Peter O’Rourke has dropped a worrying Celtic transfer update regarding the Bhoys’ interest in bringing Cameron Carter-Vickers to Parkhead on a permanent basis.

What’s the talk?

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke stated his belief that, despite Celtic’s reported interest in making the Tottenham Hotspur loanee’s temporary switch a £10m permanent deal, Ange Postecoglou’s side will be unable to get a deal over the line for the defender in January, and may also struggle to do so next summer.

Speaking about the Hoops’ potential move for the 23-year-old, the journalist said: “It definitely won’t happen in January. I think in the summer, depending on where Celtic are and whether they’ve won the title and get automatic qualification to the Champions League, there might be a possibility of doing that one.”

Celtic fans will be gutted

Considering just how impressive Carter-Vickers has been since making the move to Parkhead this summer, the news that the club look unlikely to land the defender on a permanent basis this January is sure to have left Celtic fans gutted.

Indeed, over his 11 Premiership appearances this season, the £1.8m-rated centre-back has helped his side keep five clean sheets, scored two goals and registered one assist, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.7 tackles, 4.7 clearances and winning 71% of his duels per game.

These returns have seen the £20k-per-week man average a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.45, ranking him as the fourth-best performer in the entirety of the Scottish top flight.

As such, while O’Rourke does suggest that winning the league title and playing Champions League football next season could be enough to convince the USA international of a permanent switch to Parkhead, the fact that a move for the centre-back does not look likely this winter, in addition to the Bhoys currently being four points behind the league leaders, is sure be a worry for everyone associated with the club.
