Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has slammed the Manchester United hierarchy’s approach to this summer’s transfer window claiming that the club haven’t targeted the right areas of the squad which need improving.

United have made just the one summer signing this window after landing midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax in a move which cost the Reds £39m, as per Sky Sports.

The club’s number-one transfer target continues to elude them as Borussia Dortmund continue to stand firm that winger Jadon Sancho will not be leaving this summer.

Elsewhere, the Reds remain hotly tipped to land FC Porto left-back Alex Telles (A Bola) but with no official approach yet, fans are beginning to wonder if they’ll be able to get the deal over the line in time.

Discontent within the fanbase is growing stronger with every passing day with fans begging for more signings, however, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent ominous transfer update does not give much hope that their prays will be answered.

Former Liverpool striker Crouch has echoed the supporter’s bemusement after he claimed that the Reds’ hierarchy have not targeted the right kind of players, speaking to Daily Mail (as quoted by Manchester Evening News), Crouch said: “I held a lot of hope for them in the summer but, once again, the way they have negotiated the transfer market has left me puzzled.

“They seem to buy good players, such as Donny van de Beek, but they don’t seem to have a strategy.

“If you have got Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, why do you need Van de Beek?

“Why did they not go for a forward, such as Raul Jimenez from Wolves?

“The defence needs strengthening, so why are they concentrating on Jadon Sancho rather than a partner for Harry Maguire?”

With just over a week remaining in this summer’s transfer window if United are going to further bolster their squad they will need to act fast which according to The Mirror could include a three step plan of signing a winger, selling defenders and signing a new defender.

Seems ambitious.
