The visitors took an early lead when the National Women’s Soccer League Golden Boot winner Ashley Hatch scored just four minutes in.

Australia, meanwhile, would eventually shake off any jitters and settle into the match. Kyra Cooney-Cross had the best attempt to tie things up but her shot hit off the post.

Coming out after the break, both sides continued to test the other and the match was wide open.

Lynn Williams and Rose Lavelle saw attempts saved by goalkeeper Lydia Williams while Sam Kerr and Hayley Raso couldn’t find the target at the other end.

The match would then finish with some drama when Australia made things 1-1 late in the game after Kyah Simon’s shot deflected into the net.

Minutes later, Lindsey Horan thought she scored the winner but she was offside seeing things end in a draw.

The United States won the first friendly between these two sides 3-0 last Saturday.
