Darren Bent has tipped West Ham midfielder Declan Rice to seal a move to Manchester United if he is sold by the Irons in the summer.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the Irons’ enforcer would be the “perfect addition at Old Trafford after the Red Devils’ issues in the midfield.
Hammers boss David Moyes has admitted that the east Londoners could lose Rice at the end of the season, highlighting how clubs sometimes need to sell to build a better side.
Suggesting that Manchester United could do with some additional steel in the centre of the pitch, Bent has suggested that a move to the north west could be on the cards for the West Ham 21-year-old.
“The obvious one’s probably Manchester United when you look at it,” Bent told Football Insider.
“The position that he plays, they haven’t really got a natural option, they’ve got Matic but he’s getting on so you’d think that Declan Rice could go in there and slot in pretty simple, pretty easy, especially with Bruno Fernandes.
“We don’t know what’s happening with Pogba but as far as that holding midfield role goes, he would probably be the perfect one to just slot in there.”
Rice, who started his West Ham career as a central defender, has played nearly 100 times for the Hammers since breaking into the senior side, with 86 Premier League appearances under his belt.
He has featured in every single minute of the club’s league campaign, picking up one assist and four yellow cards.
In other West Ham news, Darren Bent admits he is shocked as to what Manuel Pellegrini has said about the club.
