Higuaín is due to travel to London for a medical on Wednesday before joining the Blues on loan until the end of the season.
The striker is expected to be replaced at San Siro with Genoa’s Krzysztof Piątek after Milan agreed a €35m deal to sign the Polish international on Tuesday.
And speaking on Tuesday evening, Rossoneri goalkeeper Pepe Reina confirmed he has said his goodbyes to his Argentine former colleague.
“I said goodbye to Higuaín with an embrace, it’s always a bitter moment,” said Reina at a charity event in Milan, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“I wished him all the best and gave him a hug. Unfortunately, this too is football. I am losing a team-mate, but retain a great friend.”
Higuaín’s compatriot Lucas Biglia also confirmed that the former Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli striker is on his way.
“There is a bitter feeling when saying goodbye, as Pipita is a friend,” said Biglia.
“Another player will arrive, one who can hopefully become a great centre-forward. We want to continue doing well.”
Chelsea will reportedly pay €9m to take Higuaín on an initial loan with an option to make the transfer permanent for €36m in the summer.
His arrival at Stamford Bridge is expected to trigger the departure of Álvaro Morata, who is poised to join Atlético Madrid on loan.
