Uefa have confirmed that Spanish referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz has been appointed to oversee the Champions League final later this month.

Lahoz will be taking charge of his first Champions League final after acting as fourth official when Liverpool faced Tottenham in Madrid in 2019.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola knows the 44-year-old referee well. Back in 2018, Lahoz sent Guardiola off at half-time of City’s quarter-final second leg tie with Liverpool after the Blues boss marched onto the field to protest a disallowed goal.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said of Lahoz: “He likes to be different, he likes to be special.”

Meanwhile, Uefa have also confirmed that French referee Clément Turpin has been appointed for the Europa League final between Manchester United and Villarreal on 26 May.

European football’s governing body have also confirmed that the venue for the Champions League final will be confirmed soon.

The match was due to take place the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul but it seems it will now be moved due to Covid-19 restrictions in Turkey.
