Manchester City’s interest in Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga has seemingly stepped up this week following indirect talks with the player, according to a report.

As City step up their plans for the upcoming summer transfer window, the central midfield position will likely dominate their thinking, with a number of names understood to already be on their transfer shortlist.

Among those names and faces is now Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga, with the O Porriño-born sensation having been monitored across the course of the season so far, and is expected to be watched during the remaining games.

The player’s favourable release clause will obviously attract significant interest from the Etihad Stadium, as well as the fact that Manchester City may look to secure more than one new face in the middle of the park given the uncertainty over existing options.

Now, in a significant development, a report from Spain has revealed that a meeting has now taken place between the brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Gabri Veiga’s sister to convey interest from the Premier League champions.

That is according to a new report from Onda Cero’s Edu Pidal, who reports that Celta Vigo president Carlos Mouriño acknowledges the fact that Veiga will leave the club this summer through the activation of his €40 million release clause.

However, before any such transfer happens and in order to close an agreement with an interested party, Onda Cero report that the 20 year-old will have to decide who will be his next representative – with plenty of names and agencies interested.

As part of that battle, it has now been revealed that Pep Guardiola’s brother Pere held a meeting with Gabri Veiga’s sister on Wednesday, as she currently manages his affairs following the split with his former agency, Intermedia Sport Player.

Pere Guardiola not only presented a proposal to represent the youngster, but also conveyed Manchester City’s interest during the meeting, according to Edu Pidal.

City are likely to have a major battle on their hands this summer, should they secure the signature of the player, with Onda Cero reporting that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle will provide competition from within the Premier League.

Further afield, the likes of Napoli, Inter, and Real Madrid also hold significant admiration and interest in the player.

Manchester City are also interested in securing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham in the coming weeks and months, with the England international understood to be their number one option for the midfield role this summer.

However, similarly to most of Europe’s top midfield players this summer, City will certainly not be alone in pursuing a deal, and are likely to have to pay a fee in excess of £120 million in order to fend off competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid in particular.

As is the case with most players, Los Blancos remain an attractive destination in world football, but City have proven to be a compelling proposition – as seen through their successful pursuit of Erling Haaland last summer.
