Pep Guardiola reveals additional Manchester City security measures after ‘traumatic’ recent incident | OneFootball

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has discussed new security measures taken by the club to address a series of recent incidents.

Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish have recently both been subject to terrifying burglaries, with Grealish’s Cheshire home raided by a gang of thugs during the Blues’ recent trip to Goodison Park.

The break-in came just days after De Bruyne’s Belgium property was trashed by burglars, with on-loan Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo having also been targeted in December 2021.

The recent burglary at the home of Grealish, which took place days after Christmas, happened while around 10 members of the Englishman’s family were inside the property.

A report by The Sun also detailed that thieves fled with £1 million worth of watches and jewellery, with the shocking ordeal leaving the player’s family “really shaken” and “fearing that they could be facing a hostage situation or worse.”

A statement on Grealish’s instagram, read: “I can’t begin to explain how devastated I am over the burglary that took place at my home a few days ago.

“My family mean the world to me and nothing is more important than ensuring their safety. This has been a traumatic experience for all of us, I am just so grateful that nobody was hurt.

“I have had so many amazing experiences and achievements over the last 12 months, but to be honest the best year of my life in football now doesn’t feel like something I can celebrate.

“The people that commit these terrible crimes have no idea of the damage they cause to peoples lives. I hope they are found and brought to justice so no other family has to go through what we have.

“I appreciate the messages from everyone and the support from my friends, teammates and the club. On a more positive note, I’d like to thank everyone for their support throughout this past year, I wish you and your family a happy 2024.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has since revealed that the squad have received security advice, following the spate of burglaries at footballer’s addresses.

“The club make a statement, a meeting with the players, with all of us, explaining ‘this is the reality’ and that you have to be careful and have to prepare, and [have] surveillance,” said Guardiola.

“When you live in an apartment maybe it is easier, but when you live in the countryside or away with the big houses, so they have to [have security] today.

“But not just in UK. It happened in Spain, in Italy, in everywhere I know. So today it is a fact.”
