Clermont Foot's important victory against AC Ajaccio on Sunday (2-1) came thanks to a superb display of sangfroid from striker Grejohn Kyei, who struck twice form the penalty spot.

This season, three players have scored twice from penalties in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. After Youcef Belaïli (AC Ajaccio) against Strasbourg (4-2) - a match in which the Algerian even had a chance for a third; Jonathan David (LOSC) in the spectacular 3-3 against OL a month ago; and Grejohn Kyei, who matched the feat against Ajaccio (2-1) at the weekend, giving Clermont Foot a crucial win to keep the spectre of relegation at bay (11th, 37 pts). The CF63 striker - whose only previous penalty in Ligue 1 Uber Eats was sent back by Montpellier's cross-bar on 6 November - became the first Clermont player to score two goals from the penalty spot in the same league match since Florian Ayé against US Orleans in Ligue 2 BKT, 9 November, 2018 (also 2).

Not an easy task to accomplish; over the last ten years, of the 38 players who have had the opportunity to take two penalties in a match, 12, or 31.5%, have failed. By finding the net both times, Kyei joins specialists such as Ibrahimovic (three times with PSG), Thomas Mangani (twice with SCO) and Neymar, Falcao, Dimitri Payet, Hatem Ben Arfa and Nicolas Pépé on the list of double penalty scorers. Clermont increase their success rate to 67% For Clermont football, this second match in season 22-23 with two penalties obtained was much more successful than the previous one, since against Montpellier (1-1), Kyei was not the only one to fail: Andric had failed to score with the first spot-kick. Over the season, Pascal Gastien's team doubled their number of goals scored following a penalty (four), thus heaving them off bottom place, which they had shared with RCSA and SRFC (two). Rennes were, however, among the teams with a 100% success rate, along with Montpellier (five), Toulouse (four), Troyes (four) and Angers (three). % of successful penalties: 1. Round 29 also saw Alexandre Lacazette (OL) miss uncharacteristically from the spot. He has a brilliant record in this area in the league and the OL captain's miss against PSG was his first in Ligue 1 Uber Eats since 2 April 2017, six years ago to the day. It was only the third time in 30 attempts in Ligue 1 Uber Eats that Lacazette had missed the target from the spot after the one against Reims on 3 October, 2015 (post) and the one against AS Saint-Etienne on 30 November, 2014 (wide).
