Sky Germany reports that all signs point towards TSG Hoffenheim sacking head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo with the club currently sitting in 15th in the table.
Talks are currently ongoing surrounding a dismissal but whether Matarazzo is let go today or later in the week is yet to be seen.
Hoffenheim are already looking at replacements with Sturm Graz’s Christian Ilzer the main target to bring to the PreZero Arena. Ilzer beat Red Bull Salzburg to the Austrian Bundesliga title last season and is currently managing the team in the Champions League, whether he wants to give up European football to be engulfed in a relegation fight is up to Ilzer. Former Schalke head coach David Wagner has also previously been mooted as a replacement for Matarazzo.
If, Ilzer is not available and Hoffenheim do sack Matarazzo then an interim solution will be appointed until the winter.
Hoffenheim has had a turbulent past few months after sporting director Alexander Rosen departed as sporting director in the summer along with a host of other directors at the club. Andreas Schicker has since been brought in as Rosen’s replacement with the Austrian also previously working at Sturm Graz.
