Carlo Pellegatti has put forward a name that he believes to be in the running to become AC Milan’s next sporting director: Devin Ozek.

Numerous sources all spoke of a four-hour meeting between CEO Giorgio Furlani and Tare on Tuesday, regarding the vacant position at Milan. It is believed that the former Lazio man is now the frontrunner, but Furlani will not rush the process because of how important a decision it is.

As a result, there are also other names in the running. While the likes of Giovanni Sartori and Tony D’Amico continue to be mentioned, there is the possibility that a surprise name might crop up, especially one from abroad.

Pellegatti published a video on his YouTube channel and he revealed some news that he has received from Germany regarding an outside candidate, with MilanNews relaying his words.

“Everyone has an idea buzzing around in their heads. A few days ago, speaking with some colleagues, Giorgio Furlani made it clear that there could also be some outsiders,” he said.

“And we can’t imagine which ones in Italy, because there are settled sporting Ddrectors who don’t move, others aren’t of the highest calibre, except obviously Igli Tare and Fabio Paratici who don’t have a team at the moment.

“And so some people think that the outsider could be a foreign figure. Or, even, pay attention to this solution: an Italian sporting director and a technical director. The Italian director could be Igli Tare who has always dealt with the market and keeping in touch with the team.

“But as technical director, remember that a few weeks ago, Kim Falkenberg of Bayer Leverkusen was mentioned. A figure who immediately fell through as a candidate because he was immediately taken by Simon Rolfes, the plenipotentiary of Leverkusen. And it was never discussed again.

“But, be careful. But why was Falkenberg promoted? Because Devin Ozek left. Devin Ozek was the real great right-hand man of Simon Rolfes, one of the creators of this historic winning phase of the club. However, Devin Ozek has understood that his ambitions led to looking for something even bigger and would like to go to a top club.

“Being of Turkish origin, he is very popular with Besiktas and Galatasaray. He is very popular to some teams in Qatar or in the Middle East. He is also very sought after by the owners of some important Premier League clubs. Ozek is one of the leading figures at a managerial level in Europe.

“And I received a voice from Germany that led me to think that he could be the ideal figure for a new Milan organisational chart, which would therefore see Furlani as CEO, Moncada in charge of scouting, Senior Advisor Ibra and two other figures, just like the two figures that had made the fortune of the Elliott fund’s Milan.

“An Italian sporting director, and then it could be Tare, D’Amico himself could be fine, but a technical director of international stature like Devin Ozek. On March 10, it was Fabrizio Romano who announced Devin Ozek’s exit from Leverkusen.

“Will he be the outsider? Will this be the figure for a new organisational chart? It could be a return to a winning organisational chart: a Gazidis-style CEO, Furlani. An owner, the RedBird fund. A top scout like Moncada. But with a technical director of total international knowledge, highly appreciated and well-known like Devin Ozek and a sporting director.

“Be careful because there could be surprises. We are flattening ourselves on an Italian sporting director, but maybe the intentions are for an Italian sporting director, but from Germany they told me ‘Watch out!’. Because Devin Ozek is liked.”
