PEC Zwolle midfielder joins Fortuna Düsseldorf after missing out on Austria Wien transfer | OneFootball

Fortuan Düsseldorf have announced the signing of PEC Zwolle midfielder Anouar El Azzouzi. The midfielder, who still had one year left plus an option for a further year on his contract, was destined to leave the club this summer. A few weeks ago he missed out on a transfer to Austrian Bundesliga side Austria Wien. Instead, he joins promotion chasing Fortuna Düsseldorf for the 2025/2026 2. Bundesliga campaign.

El Azzouzi made his senior debut in football for FC Dordrecht during the 2021/2022 season. In a two year spell with the club he played 66 games, scoring five goals and providing six assists. In the summer of 2023 he joined PEC Zwolle and stepped up to the Eredivisie. He made 22 appearances in his first year at the club but really blossomed this past season. In 34 games for the side he scored once and provided one assist. He will bring some defensive midfield options for Daniel Thioune at Fortuna.
